My wife Robbie and I met with a neurosurgeon in Mpls yesterday and head for the Mayo Clinic today, getting 2nd and 3rd opinions on her acoustic neuroma brain tumor (benign). It’s looking like the best option is surgery where they remove most of the tumor but leave a sheath on the facial nerve, radiating that later only if it grows. The other methods of radial surgery introduce the likelihood of new tumors in 20 years or so, esp since her tumor is so big. The surgery would take 10-12 hours, and would be a 3 month recovery, with at least a year before she was back to normal.
Meanwhile, we seem to be doing ok. She’s been surprisingly affectionate and I’ve been able to be more attentive than usual.
