I don’t get HBO so I’ve never seen The Sopranos. But this Newhouse News article intrigued me. Maye I’ll have to get the DVD and catch up with the culture.
The most gripping sequences in HBO’s smash gangland series… take place in the office where mob boss Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) visits his psychiatrist, Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco)… For most “Sopranos” viewers, Tony’s therapy is great drama — the point where a vibrant character reveals the inner motives of his actions. But for Dr. Glen Gabbard, a Houston psychiatrist, the sessions are even more impressive: “They make sense therapeutically. It’s a realistic portrayal of (a psychiatrist) treating a very difficult patient.”
