How can you stay 100% true to the intention, while 100% unattached to the result? – Dan DeMuth
I pulled that quote from a Sunday Star Tribune article titled The golf whisperer about Inner Circle member Dan DeMuth and his golf/psychology business. It’s an interesting combination of my two favorite Larry Brilliant quotes: 1) You’re entitled to the joy of work, you’re just not entitled to the results. And 2) Live your life without ambition. But live as those who are ambitious.
I kept a variation of it running it through my head on Sunday whenever I noticed my nervousness kicking in before riding a section at the motorcycle trials event where I was competing. “If I’m nervous, I must be attached to the result. Just ride it and have fun.” It made a big difference, but if I write more about exactly how, it tends to feed my outcome-addicted brain so never mind. 😉
Funny how it hasn’t occured to me to apply Brilliant’s quote about work to sports, eg, “You’re entitled to the joy of competition, you’re just not entitled to the results.
