I’m having dinner tonight with Dick Bolles and Dick Leider, two guys who spend a good chunk of their lives writing and speaking to people about finding their purpose in life.
Bolles is the author of What Color is Your Parachute?, one of the books listed in the Real Joe book store because of its influence on my life. He’s in the Twin Cities this week to give a speech at a convention. His web site is JobHuntersBible.com. Leider is the head of The Inventure Group and the author of many work/life books. His company is based here.
Leider publishes a periodical called the On Purpose Journal and he has an article in the latest issue titled For the Sake of What?
Purpose is our answer to the question, “For the sake of what?” Our answer is crucial to our health and happiness. Our bodies seem to need messages of purpose and hope from the brain to cope, to heal and to stay centered in our lives. Those of powerful purpose have always known this. They have understood that a meaningful life must somehow celebrate the purpose that life provides… Purposeful people have a sense of their duty to the world. They believe that the future will work out and that there is a grand pattern to life. They have made three simple, yet profound, choices in their lives.
Read the article to find out just what those three choices are and to see if you’re getting there. I’m making progress on #1 and #2 but nowhere close yet on #3.
