I don’t believe in God any more than I believe in the law of gravity. I don’t have to believe in gravity because I can count on it. – Polly Berrien Berends
Polly goes on to say, “I depend on it (and not on anything else), it does not let me down. So God is not a question of belief, but of verifiable mind, order, law, and force. Because this force is universal, it applies to everyone and can be seen as reliable by anyone who relies on it. The more I am aligned with this fundamental force, the less I am hurt, and the more I can walk upright–safely, freely, and joyfully.”
This was a pretty strange notion to me when I first read it. The metaphor hooked me, though, since none of our senses can directly detect the existence of gravity. We have to deduce it. The more I put aside my fretting over problems and just ask for inspiration and pointers to correct my goofy thinking, the more I see that good things come to me. And the more I rely, the more aligned I become, the better life is. It works every time, like gravity.
This financial crisis I’m in now, however, is definitely putting me to the test. Every day, I say a little “Hey, I’m listening!” type prayer and then try to get a little SOS so I can listen for answers. I wonder what’s in store.
