I can easily understand Darryl Strawberry having trouble getting with his drug treatment program and ending up back in jail. Going straight is hard for an addict, but oftentimes, learning to live your daily life by someone else’s rules is even harder.
But it’s tougher to figure out what could’ve led Ruben Rivera to steal equipment from Derek Jeter’s locker and sell it for $2,500, having just “…signed a one-year $1 million guaranteed contract with the Yankees last month.” If not greed, then what? Anger? The thrill of it? I wonder if Rivera even knows himself. And I wonder if he’ll use this incident to haul his psyche into a therapist’s garage for a tuneup so he can figure it out.
