The other Feb. Esquire piece worth reading is Mr. Popular by David Sedaris, a story of his encounters with an in-crowd grade school kid who hits him with a rock and knocks out a tooth. Sedaris’ descriptions of the kids’ fathers and the class distinctions are both funny and exquisite. It brought back memories of a shameful incident in 6th grade when my father ineptly challenged an 8th grader who was bullying me on the hockey rink.
