Esquire’s February How to be Tough issue is not at all about how to be tough. I don’t know what tagline I’d put on the cover, but it bugs the hell out of me when magazines mislead, just to sell single issues on the newsstand.
The Mel Gibson pieces (not online) are actually about his new movie We Were Soldiers which comes out today. I’m interested now in seeing the movie because of it. He’s definitely affected by getting to know Colonel Hal Moore, the guy who’s the focus of the book and the movie.
I’ve been watching old war movies lately with a few guys here in Northfield. Gallipoli. Zulu. Saving Private Ryan. Gladiator. It’s been a good way to talk about our country’s response to Sep. 11. Maybe we’ll do a road trip to see Soldiers.
