One thing that’s always bugged me about so many of our cultural heroes is that their achievements were too often at the expense of or just overshadowed their failings in the other areas of their lives. Recent revelations about Albert Einstein and Joe DiMaggio, for example, make these guys not exactly worth emulating IMHO. I don’t have a remedy for this, since it’s mainly a cultural problem. But hey, how about a Real Joe award, given to a notable guy who’s living a balanced life? Nominations, please!
