Look at everything as though

Look at everything as though you were seeing it either for the first or last time. Then your time on earth will be filled with glory. – Betty Smith

The problem with quotes like this is that it doesn’t seem applicable it is to daily life. I mean ‘everything’? My toothbrush? The first step going downstairs? What about the last step? The plastic bag that the newspaper comes in? There’s no doubt something to be gained by “being fully present” every waking moment, but how many people can really do that? More importantly, the value of doing it only some of the time is lost on most of us because it’s so unlikely that we’d even try to do it ALL the time.

Right now, I’m content with trying to do it when I’m going for a walk in the woods by myself.
