Today I sent out semi-individualized email messages to the 35 or so guys who responded to my “I Pray. But Not Like That.” piece back in July and August, as well as a couple of other pieces. I asked them to sign up for one or more of the newsletters, as well as to register for the Discussion Boards and drop a note in the Beta Joes belly up to the Bar discussion topic in the Joe’s Bar folder.
It’s mid-afternoon now and several have already. This is the fifth virtual community I’ve started since 1986 and it’s always a bit nerve wracking to open the doors of a place and then try to get the social climate established so that people want to return. Not unlike having a big party and wondering if enough people will actually show up and hit it off with one another so that everyone has fun.
This is where it’s hard to not to not get too wrapped up in how things turn out…what I wrote about in the AFOB, BHAGs, and Ambition piece. “You’re entitled to the joy of work, you’re just not entitled to the results.” sayeth Dr. Larry. Ok, ok.
