A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can do without. – Henry David Thoreau
This is a tough one in this consumer culture. I like to think I could do without my computing tools and recreational toys if necessary but I’m not so sure it would be exactly easy. I do know that I seem to be less compelled about acquiring more stuff as my relationship with my wife has improved over the past five years or so. Yeah, I’d sure like at least two new motorcycles but I have to remind myself that, after a couple of days, I really wouldn’t be any happier than I am right now. My head still turns when I pass the BMW and Harley dealers on I-35, though.
