It’s been a memory-maker week

It’s been a memory-maker week with me and my 15 year-old daughter. She started taking driver’s ed classes on Monday so Thursday night, I took her to a large parking lot behind a vacant warehouse in town and let her get behind the wheel for the first time. It was a delicious moment for me as a father — her nervousness and excitement so apparent as she began learning a new skill for a new age of her life. The moon was full, and the lights from the nearby baseball field combined to make a picturesque setting. I was in heaven and I knew it.

She surprised herself at how quickly she got the hang of it. When we got home, I said, “Hey, I’m proud of you.” And she said, “Yeah, I’m proud of myself, too.”
She wants to surprise her mom when she returns from out of on Sunday.

Tonight we went to the Twins baseball game at the Metrodome with her friend Katie who’s moving to Colorado on Monday. It couldn’t have been any better… a see-saw slugfest with the Twins scoring two runs in the bottom of the tenth to win it. We had great seats along the third base line with lots of foul balls coming our way. One of my sons used a Dome Cam web site to snap pictures. A night to savor for all of us.
