We give thanks for unknown

We give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way. – Sacred Ritual Chant

Two of my sons came down for a belated Mother’s Day celebration yesterday. And the one who recently settled a lawsuit over his seat belt injury surprised us with a combination Mother’s Day/Father’s Day/birthday/Xmas gift: a 12 day cruise through Europe on the Rhine River in September. We were totally shocked, both to the point of tears.

Neither of us have ever been to Europe but have longed to go for a quite a while. We’d pretty much ruled it out for at least another ten years, so it’s a dream come true. It’s unusual for parents to receive such a large gift from a child. It occurs to me as I write this that if we were financially well off, this wouldn’t have happened. So in a sense, we’re lucky to be broke, because now we get to be the recipient of a child’s generosity. It’s another example of how you never know what’s good news or bad news. I wonder what other unknown blessings are already on their way?
