He is the best physician

He is the best physician who is the most ingenious inspirer of hope. – Samuel Taylor Coleridge

My daughter’s back is infected so they had to take out the metal rods from last year’s surgery. She’ll be on an IV drip for 3-4 weeks.

Possible good news: the fusion didn’t fail completely, so if it grows/fuses solidly after the infection is treated, they may not have to do surgery to replace the rods. We won’t know for a couple of months or so. It’s a repeat of what one of my sons went through with his fusion. Pretty weird to have this happen to two kids in the same family.

Her surgeon’s got a great ‘beside manner.’ He’s funny, he’s extremely personable, he takes his time with us, and he’s not hesitant to tell us when he’s unsure of something, despite having been doing surgeries like hers for 20 years. This is his first surgical ‘failure’ with this type of Scoliosis, though it’s not likely that he did anything wrong. He told us last year that the failure rate was 1%, but he only told us this week that he personally has never had one. If this guy has an ego problem, as many surgeons do, I don’t see it. I just like him and trust him a lot.
