Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago. – Bernard Berenson
A year ago I was in New York City, attending garage.com’s Bootcamp for Startups. Looks like they’re doing another one in May. It was a very good seminar and I came back convinced that the time was right to launch Real Joe. I turned down a very attractive offer from a Mpls-based startup that, incidentally, has NOT gone belly-up in the dot-com bloodbath.
Looking back, I should have downshifted sooner in the fall, bringing in some outside income to keep from going into debt, as that was my agreement with my wife, Robbie. I waited too long, though, thinking that the next investor, the next ‘deal,’ was just a short hop away. Now I’ve got a financial hole to dig us out of, and she’s not too happy about it. All the medical stuff was a factor, sure, but it would’ve likely happened regardless.
So I’m poorer than I was a year ago, but I’m sure less ignorant. And I’m just as determined.
