Do not go where the

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

My problem with this quote is that it engages my ego. I’m blazing a trail where none have trod! In my brain, it runs counter to the notion of a calling, which may in fact lead me to follow a path where others have gone before me. So a more accurate version of this quote for me would be “Do not go blindly where the path may lead nor where there is no trail. Go instead where one is called.” Or something like that. I’m sure no Waldo.
