The paradox of courage is

The paradox of courage is that a man must be a little careless of his life even in order to keep it. – G. K. Chesterton

This is not about doing dangerous hobbies that prove my manhood. “Careless of his life…” can mean that it’s more about risking that which I’ve built up around myself to shore up my ego, my mistaken ideas of who I am. I’ve never fashioned myself as an entrepreneur, so maybe I’m being a little courageous. Yet it probably would be harder and more courageous for me to try out for a play, or to learn a foreign language.
