I started lifting weights yesterday–circuit-type machines at the local Senior Citizens Center. I went with my wife Robbie and daughter who started going there last week. I generally hate weight lifting of any kind. I know I need to do it now, as muscles reportedly start to deteriorate after age 50. And it helps to frame this as getting in shape for other sports that I want to do.
It occurs to me now that there’s another reason for me to keep this up. It’s something active I can do with my wife and daughter, along with swimming (which I also generally hate and they like). Up until now, I thought of weightlifting and swimming as something they can do together while I go off and play racquetball. Now I see it differently. Cool.
