Far away in the sunshine

Far away in the sunshine are my highest inspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see the beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead. – Louisa May Alcott
At first I thought the quote read “… highest aspirations” — meaning ‘goals’ and ‘mission’ and ‘achievement’. It could still mean that, especially since she says “…may not reach them.” But I wonder, especially since a woman wrote this, whether it means something more along the line of follow the power or spirit which inspires.
I can imagine, and have even written out, what Real Joe could become. It’s an aspiration, a vision. But if Real Joe is coming to be because I’m following an inspiration, and not my ego or some mistaken idea, then there must be something beyond, ‘far away in the sunshine.’
