Blog drought

A bit of a blogging drought lately. Excuses I’ve got:

1. My knee.
It turns out I tore my ACL. I almost opted for the surgery (estimated recovery time: 6 months) but the fancy brace they put me in seems to do the trick, allowing me to still play racquetball and ride trials while minimizing the likelihood the knee will pop out again, damaging the cartilage.

Last weekend presented a tough decision, since the brace hadn’t arrived: ride the two-day motorcycle trials without it or stay home. I took a long walk on both Friday night and Saturday morning, trying to get some clarity about it. The message that eventually arrived: figure out another way to have some fun; forget about the points for the season — that’s just ego; not taking a chance raises the likelihood I’ll still be able to ride when I’m 100 and not have to struggle with arthritis in the knee.

At one point I actually decided to have the surgery, and planned to call the ortho back on Monday to say “Let’s do it this week.” And yet I still had a pretty good weekend… no sorry-for-myself thinking at all. Prayers answered?

2. Media Maggot
I stumbled through a PR bonanza/fiasco in my dayjob. I got myself caught between rival newspaper reporters each working on a story about small business weblogs. I eventually turned to some of my media-savvy friends for advice on how to ethically extract myself and peace-of-mind arrived. Prayers answered? Both pieces eventually got published, and though they were each disappointing in small ways, I did get some new clients from the exposure. It made for a busy week… a good problem to have.

But neither of these events is the real reason for not blogging lately. It’s still my basic problem of not being organized enough and mustering the self-discipline needed to manage a busy week. Prayers not answered?
